Status Update

24 July, 2007

Here’s the latest in the world of the Cernio Technology Cooperative:

  • We’re now 49 members strong. We have members in California, Oregon, Washington State, Florida, Hawai’i, British Columbia, Brazil, England, and Iceland. We’re eagerly awaiting our first members from Africa, the Middle East, and/or Asia. :)
  • Our two cabinets are fairly full, but we still have at least 10U of space and 6Amps of power available. We’re looking at expanding by using “infill” (consolidating old/inefficient 1Us and 2Us into a few powerful Xen servers) and by putting equipment in other datacenters.
  • Incorporation is still progressing, slowly but surely. We have an attorney, the appropriate number of founding board members, office addresses in the relevant jurisdictions, and the money to make it happen. The limiting factor here is my time.
  • We’ve recently rolled out a new support system (using Request Tracker), new power distribution and network switching equipment, a new serial console server, and a revamped firewall.
  • beta-status Jabber instant messaging services (with sufficient bandwidth for voice, video, and file transfer) is available free of charge to Cernio members.
  • We’re considering the following projects: IP allocation from a RIR, BGP support, VOIP services for members, and regular in-person meet-ups.
  • Cernio folks are meeting up at OSCON in Oregon and LinuxWorld in San Francisco.

More updates as they’re warranted. :)
